E and I are planning a New Jewish Wedding, which, as I see it, means we get to do whatever we want and call it tradition. Pomegranates have a special significance in Judiasm. They are one of the seven spices, as well as being a symbol for righteousness. Additionally, pomegranates represent the bond between husband and wife in Greek mythology.  They’re also gorgeous and delicious, which were two of my most important criteria when considering wedding motifs.

Finally, they are a harvest fruit. E and I are getting married on a farm, in early fall, so the harvest will provide natural decor! In the end, we couldn’t imagine a more perfect representation of love, beauty, fall and tradition to carry us through this epic transition. I’m sure I’ll talk all about how we plan to pomegranate-infuse our wedding in future posts, but I wanted to give this brief rationale first (now and forever a rational researcher).
